Bastille is one of the most historic Paris neighbourhoods.
Place Bastille, French Revolution July Column, Paris National Opera., Place des Vosges, Picasso Museum, Viaduc des Arts, Marché Aligre, Bassin de l'Arsenal
The Modern Paris National Opera imposes itself on Place Bastille while Bofinger, famous for its Belle Epoque decor and its Alsatian cuisine, has stood proudly nearby since 1864. Here you also have one foot in the Marais – the regal Place des Vosges and the Picasso museum are just a 10 minute walk from Place Bastille.
Just north of the Place, rue de Lappe with its many small bars, restaurants and clubs comes alive in the evenings and stays alive through to the early hours. Head down avenue de la Bastille to appreciate the lovely green and blue ambience of the garden and basins of Bassin de l'Arsenal where the neighbourhood meets the Seine River.
A ten minute walk off the south east corner of the Place, join local walkers and joggers above the streets of the 12th on Viaduc des Arts, a unique, raised green space along an old Parisian railway viaduct.
Marché Place Beauvau-Aligre is one of the city’s most famous permanent markets and, after buying your provisions for lunch or dinner, pause at Le Baron Rouge for a very reasonably priced glass of wine from their great barrels, sample some of their charcuterie or oysters (only on Sundays) and enjoy some good fun.

I loved the place...
... the location was perfect. I could walk to most places on foot. The restaurants, bars, fresh fruit market, bakeries... everything is there.
